The Society of Martha Washington proudly offers the annual Patriot Scholarship, providing deserving Laredo-area high school students the opportunity to attend the nationally recognized Close Up Washington, D.C. Flagship Program. This life-changing experience inspires students to deepen their understanding of American government, history, leadership, and civic responsibility while exploring our nation's capital.

Imagine spending six unforgettable days in Washington, D.C., where history comes alive beyond the classroom. Students meet elected officials, engage in discussions about government and public policy, visit iconic monuments and memorials, and connect with peers from across the nation who share a passion for leadership and civic engagement.
From walking the halls of Congress to exploring the landmarks that shaped our nation's history, participants gain experiences that build confidence, broaden perspectives, and inspire a lifetime of active citizenship.

What the Scholarship Includes
The Patriot Scholarship provides deserving students with a life-changing opportunity to experience American history, government, and leadership firsthand through the Close Up Washington, D.C. Flagship Program. By covering the cost of tuition and round-trip airfare, the Society of Martha Washington helps remove financial barriers so students can focus on learning, growing, and building lifelong connections. Every part of the program is designed to inspire civic engagement, leadership, and a deeper appreciation for the responsibilities and opportunities of being an active citizen.

Applying for the Patriot Scholarship is simple and designed to help you showcase your achievements, leadership, and potential. Follow the steps below to complete your application and submit all required materials for consideration before the application deadline.
Complete the Application
Fill out the online Patriot Scholarship application completely and accurately.
Upload Required Documents
Submit all required supporting materials, including:
- Completed application
- Recent photograph
- Resume
- High school transcript
- Teacher or counselor recommendation letter
- Original scholarship essay (350–500 words)
